Treatment Methods
Throughout
Pauls' childhood he sampled the handywork of many practitioners
in the UK and in the USA whom his Father was 'cribbing' from. The approach that he admired
the most was one of sensitive consideration and deft technique. This tended
to be the character of the practitioners of greater experience. There was great variation
in their style and abilities, just as there is now. Manual physical therapy
is an art to be perfected by the few, rather than the many.
His
treatment methods include deep massage of
muscles and connective tissues. Paul also uses manipulation
and stretching of joints through precise passive stretching techniques. This
reduces muscle spasm, increases mobility and creates a healthier
state in which damaged tissues can heal more efficiently. His
methods are tailored to take into account the differences between
each persons’ condition
and sensitivity.
Paul
has developed a
specialised hands-on approach that he calls ‘Myo-articulation’,
to reverse deep tension patterns quite swiftly. If there is carpal
bone derangement present, he can very specifically locate and ‘undo’ adhesions
and re-align these delicate little bones of the wrist. He will ‘track’ the
tension patterns along the arm and identify shoulder, ribcage
and neck involvement. These he will then release using a variety
of techniques such as articulation, massage and manipulation
where necessary.
Long-lever
articulation is a method of stretching the muscles and ligaments.
It can also be used to mobilise a specific joint. It is often
similar to having your Yoga done for you. It is entirely passive
on the part of the patient. it can be applied equally to the facet
joint of C6 and C7 as it can to the hip joint.
Restoring
the symmetry of the spine and ribcage, whilst
increasing the flexibility of rigid areas is essential for
long term health. Trauma
patterns remain for life, the body takes a ‘snapshot
of the aftermath of distortions that the body goes
through by ‘freezing’ the areas. Where
these compensations are demanded in areas which are
resistant, the pattern will lock in to that area. (
see Lumbar article).
Spinal
manipulation is a generally painless method of suddenly
'gapping' the adhered areas of facet joints where they most
likely to be limiting the range of motion of those joints.
It is a highly skilled ability which involves many hundreds
of hours of development, even after you have graduated. Like
any great skill such as playing the piano, effectiveness lies
in the subtlety and precision of such manoeuvres. The
'pop' or 'crack' of joints is of great benefit to the joint,
in that it restores a normal range of motion to it.
Following
extensive research Paul has developed 'Enhanced Cranial Technique'. This
particular approach is used where there has been trauma to the
cranium. Where there is some distortion
in cranial symmetry and reduction in the elastance co-efficient of
the cranium there is often an aftermath, sometimes for life, of under-performance
of the brain, mind and emotions.
Directly
blows to the head can impact the sutures which run between
the cranial bones, this in turn can produce premature fusion
of the sutures of the skull. This can raise the average intracranial
pressure both as an immediate aftermath of trauma and over a long period of time. As a result the brain stem control
and activation system which modulate the brains' activation levels generally responds with
a high adrenaline tendency. Children and adults become irritable,
emotionally volatile. Lack of concentration and learning difficulties
in children and adults will often result. (see
ICP article).
Abdominal congestion leads to conditions such as poor
digestion and bowel function as well as menstrual difficulties.
Abdominal de-congestion massage techniques can help greatly in such
cases.
Incorrect breathing patterns can also be corrected through
treatment and education. Such patterns have a harmful effect
on the posture as well as on general health. (see
voice article)
Tailored exercises are given when areas of muscle function
are weak and wasting as well as educating patients with
regard to postural, ergonomic and life style factors.
Additional diagnostic methods available:
X-rays
can be performed and assessed usually within half an hour
at the local facility in Harley St. Blood tests for all manner
of problems can be performed with results usually arriving
within 48 hours. Results are then acted upon
in a variety of ways, including communication with casualty
wards and, or, the patients' GP.
